Alliance for Affordable Energy - Louisiana

The Alliance is a non-profit, public interest, membership organization dedicated to creating fair, affordable, environmentally responsible, community-based energy policies for Louisiana and the nation. Founded in 1985, today the Alliance serves Louisiana's 1.8 million electric and gas rate payers by promoting citizen participation in the decision-making process, conducting community education campaigns on energy issues, helping citizens and businesses become more energy efficient, and working together for lower energy bills.

Center for Health, Environment and Justice - Virginia

CHEJ is the only national environmental organization founded and led by grassroots leaders. After winning the federal relocation of residents victimized by toxic waste at Love Canal, Lois Gibbs and other local activists were inundated with calls from people around the country who were facing similar threats and wanted help. CHEJ was founded in 1981 to address this need.

Citizens’ Environmental Coalition (CEC) was founded in 1983 by people living with the legacy of toxic pollution. They were united in the belief that no child should be born with toxic chemicals in their body, and began to use their collective grassroots power to influence statewide policy, with a mission to eliminate toxic pollution from homes, workplaces, schools and communities by empowering people. Twenty years later, CEC has grown into 110 community, labor, faith-based, youth, health and environmental groups and over 14,000 individuals throughout New York State with offices in Albany and Buffalo. We serve as the nexus of local communities, statewide policy discussions and national collaborations.

KAHEA -The Hawaiian Environmental Alliance

KAHEA is network of activists throughout five main Hawaiian Islands. We address critical issues within our communities and 'ahupua'a (geographic and cultural demarcation from the uppermost land to the outer reef). We work with citizens organizing to protect sensitive shorelines and culturally significant sites from inappropriate development and to prevent the conversion of our agricultural lands to gated communities, golf courses, and malls. We also work to protect Hawaiis threatened biodiversity and endangered species.

Oregon Natural Desert Association

ONDA's mission is to protect, defend and restore the health of Oregon's native deserts. ONDA got its start in the mid-1980s,when a small group of desert activists joined together to oppose the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) inadequate findings in their assessment of "Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs)" for Eastern Oregon. The work of these activists resulted in a significant expansion of the acreage of declared WSA's, which ONDA continues to monitor today. In 1989, the organization officially incorporated and received its non-profit status. Since then, we've emerged as a leader in efforts to protect High Desert lands and water from irresponsible livestock grazing, mining, and geothermal development.
