Global warming hastened arrival of dinosaurs

Scientists now believe that the Earth became significantly hotter during this (Carboniferous) period, turning rainforests into ‘islands’ surrounded by arid deserts. This climatic change caused lizards to adapt to live in drier conditions and led to the evolution of different varieties of dinosaurs, according to the Daily Mail, citing the journal Geology.

Howard Falcon-Lang of Royal Holloway, University of London, who carried out the research, revealed this global warming indirectly influenced mammalian evolution.

“The global warming set in motion the process which led to the evolution of dinosaurs and produced different species which adapted to the climate in different ways,” he said.

The study used background data already existing that pointed out 27% Americans suffering from allergies were highly sensitive to ragweed.
